Teriyaki Grilling Marinade

When I barbecue beef, chicken or seafood (shrimp, salmon or any other type of fish) I like the food to have rich tastes, one of my favourite marinades for bbq is Teriyaki.  I normally buy the bottled stuff, but here is a great recipe that is even better than the store bought brands – no matter which brand you buy.  I use this on shrimp and beef — and it’s great!

Ingredients

2/3 cup soy sauce (I use low-sodium)
1 teaspoon fresh garlic, chopped very fine
2 tablespoons dry mustard
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 tablespoons onions, chopped very fine
4 tablespoons molasses
1/3 cup olive oil

Directions

  1. Put soy sauce in a small bowl.
  2. Whisk in ground mustard, ginger, garlic and onion.
  3. Add molasses and stir well.
  4. Add olive oil and mix well.
  5. Place meat in suitable pan with marinade.
  6. Cover and refrigerate.
  7. Marinate at least 1 hour, longer for steak, turning occasionally.
  8. Remove meat and grill, discarding marinade.
  9. The one hour”cook” time is the marinating time.
  10. The actual cooking time depends on the meat.

The marinade itself takes only 10-15 minutes to prepare, but you will want to marinade the beef or chicken for up to 2 hours or to suit.
