Weight Lost – Clothes Are Loose! Now What?

First off – CONGRATULATIONS! If you’re losing weight and your clothes are getting looser that’s a GOOD THING! But now what do you do? Perhaps you have not lost enough weight to buy all new clothes.
For pants – it’s less expensive to have them hemmed and the waist and/or seat taken in. This is the least expensive method but also consider what you paid for the pants. If they are $20.00 jeans or joggers the alterations may cost just as much — in that case, wash and donate them and buy new ones. If they are more expensive dress pants then you may want to get them re-hemmed and have the waist taken in. If you don’t have the seat taken in, they will look really baggy – but you might be able to get away with it until your next size drop.
As with most clothes you can only take them in so much before it’s just not possible. For pants the tailer told me about 4″ and anything more than that then the pockets will touch in the back — you will look goofy.
For shirts you don’t have many options – you could get darts but I don’t think they look all that good. Depending on how big the shirt it you might be able to get away with it until you drop several sizes for example if you went from a 22″ neck to 21″ or 20″ you might be able to get away with still wearing it. However if you went from a 22″ to 18″ – you better replace the shirts otherwise you will look H-U-G-E in it.
There really is no rule of thumb – you have to see how the clothes look on you.
… see, all that exercise did pay off!
Here is to your health!
